The choice of a pellet stove is an important one. That's why my husband and I chose a Harman pellet stove over any other brand. We'd done a lot of reading, looked at pellet stove reviews and pellet stove ratings, and checked out options and prices. We like what we saw. Harman pellet stoves are equipped with a fan in their base that draws in the cooler air from the room. The cooler air is cycled through the unit and then returned to the room heated.
The decision to buy a wood pellet stove was an easy one. We wanted an efficient and less expensive way to heat than using fuel oil. We'd read that pellet stoves can run at 80% efficiency whereas fuel oil generally runs at 78% efficiency. We liked the idea of using clean burning wood pellets. Wood pellets burn CO2 neutral so they don't harm the environment outside, and there are no harmful fumes inside either. We looked at pellet stove forums and read some people think Harman are the best pellet stoves made.
Harman makes many different models, the Harman P61A and P61, the Harman Advance and Harman Accentra, the Harman Pellet Pro38 Plus and P68 and the Harman XXV.
So we decided to take a look at Harman pellet stoves. We were impressed with the salesman and felt that he had a very thorough knowledge of the Harman stoves. He explained to us that the way our home is insulated will play a role in how efficiently the stove will work. A well insulated home may be adequately heated with a 20 BTU unit and a older leaky home may require 60 BTU's for warmth. Placement of the stove is also key in making sure you can warm all the areas you want to. Open floor plans work best with pellet stoves and allow the stove to heat a greater square foot area evenly and efficiently.
We looked at the Harman XXV pellet stove that has a BTU up to 50,000 and heats 1,700 square feet. We liked the large capacity hopper at 65 lbs. A large capacity hopper means that you'll have to fill the stove less. We looked at the Harman P68 stove with a heating capacity of 2,200 sq. ft and a BTU of 68,000.
We were very impressed with the Harman Accentra pellet stove. This is a true state-of-the-art pellet stove that offers an automatic ignition and a 50 lb. hopper capacity. This stove offers a room sensor that monitors room temperature and adjusts the feed rate of pellets automatically.
We decided to buy a pellet stove instead of a wood burning stove because even though the cost of wood pellets is initially more expensive they actually save money because they burn so efficiently. There is much less waste using wood pellets and it's much cleaner to use than air cured fire wood.
